Welcome
to Our Site
The Friends for Yucca is currently restructuring to meet the needs of the entire Yucca community. We are enthusiastic about the prospect of creating more history with all our community members.
Friends for Yucca is a non-profit, community-oriented group established to introduce new projects and foster new friendships in Yucca. Alongside the Mohave County Economic Development Services, Friends for Yucca is diligently working to bring enriching programs and services to all Yucca residents. We are actively seeking members from our diverse community to join us in creating and developing these impactful programs and services.

History of Our Group

Beginning of Friends for Yucca (FFY)
Friends for Yucca (FFY) began when a group of us took a "History of Mohave County" course from our local community college. We discovered that our community, Yucca, was once a thriving center of the local area. However, the construction of the Interstate had divided the town, and the closure of mines and the local airbase led to a decline in jobs and population. In September 2008, Friends for Yucca was formed with the goal of assisting those less fortunate and fostering community cohesiveness.
What is the activity?
Our activities included starting projects and then transferring them to other groups, such as the American Legion Post #136 and the Yucca Community Food Pantry. Additionally, we initiated the Yucca Friends of the Library project. One of our earliest community projects was distributing food boxes to Yucca residents, a project that has now expanded with the help of the Community Christian Fellowship Church and St. Mary's Food Bank, benefiting over 100 families in the area.
When is the activity conducted?
Throughout the year, we hosted several dinners, including a St. Patrick's Day dinner, a June Luau, and meals near Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our volunteers and donations from the community made these events possible. We also organized a veteran's parade every second Saturday in November, funding it through bake sales and other fundraising events held in the neighboring community of Kingman.
Where is the activity conducted?
Most of our activities took place at the Yucca Fire District (YFD) building, the only facility large enough to host events within the area's zip code.
How does the activity further your exempt purpose?
All funds raised were reinvested into the community. For example, we used proceeds from the parade and bake sales to affix the name of the town on the water tank, instilling a sense of pride in the community. We also donated to the Yucca Elementary School, the Community Christian Fellowship Church, and contributed to various other community initiatives.
What percentage of your total time is allocated to the activity?
Our members dedicated a significant amount of time to these activities, with each member contributing well over 20 hours per month. In the months leading up to the veteran's parade, the time commitment significantly increased, with members contributing over 40 hours per month to its preparation.
How is the activity funded?
We funded our activities through various means, including silent auctions at dinners featuring donated items such as baskets, quilts, and clothing.
